This introductory course teaches the basics of Adobe Photoshop. Through project-based, hands-on exercises, students will explore the tools and techniques used to draw, paint, and manipulate images. Collage effects using various tools and layers will teach students the principles of Photoshop and art-making on a computer. Projects will develop skills while inspiring students to create original digital artwork that encourages personal discovery and direction. 

Note: This course uses Adobe Creative Cloud Suite. Students should have basic knowledge of Mac computers and Mac OS 10.x or experience with Microsoft Windows. Basic knowledge of Photoshop is also recommended.


Spring 2021: 8 Weeks: Base Tuition: $355 + Lab Fee: $40 = Total: $395

PLEASE NOTE: Due to COVID 19, special policies and regulations will apply. Students must be in agreement with these health and safety regulations and TSA's policies in order to enrol. 

We will not be working in the Digital Lab but using a larger studio in order to support physical distancing requirements.

In the unlikely event that in-person classes must be cancelled midway through the term due to COVID closure, students will need to arrange for their own license of Photoshop for this course. Please check out the Adobe website.

Notes: John Bingham is a commercial photographer and graphic artist. He has been teaching at the Toronto School of Art since 2005. Bingham established his career in documentary and editorial photography. As traditional film photography gave way to the new digital medium Bingham was quick to realize its potential for both photographers and artists. His solid understanding of Adobe Photoshop has made him a highly sought out industry professional, teacher and tutor. Looking to share his knowledge and experience with other artists, Bingham has found great satisfaction helping new students of digital photography and Adobe Photoshop. His love of teaching has helped many students find fulfillment in photography and the digital arts. Bingham’s photography practice is based in Canada with assignments taking him to the Canadian Arctic, China, Mexico, South America and the United States. His client list includes a number of the country’s largest corporations, international hotel chains, architectural and design houses, professional theater companies and television producers. His photographs have been published in Canadian books and magazines and are held in a number of private collections.
