This unique combination Online / In-Person workshop explores the transformative power of light in the urban and natural landscape. We will be shooting photographs at twilight or early evening, when the transition from day to night transforms unique places in Toronto like Chinatown, Humber Bay Park, Dundas Square and the Harbourfront into mysterious liminal spaces.

Class time is broken down into two components: an outdoor/in-person socially distanced photo walk on Saturday evenings focusing on composition, camera techniques, practical advice on dealing with the changing lighting; and an online lecture/critique format on Wednesday evenings (via Zoom) to discuss and process the photographs taken and learn about street photographers like Philip-Lorca diCorcia, Fred Herzog, Justine Kurland, Petra Collins etc.

This short intensive INTERMEDIATE level workshop class will give you the practical skills and historical background to make photographs engaging with nighttime photography.

Note: A digital SLR camera and tripod are required for the outdoor portion of the course (see Material List below).
