Drawing and Collage is an innovative class for beginner students who wish to develop their skills in the foundations of drawing in combination with explorations in collage. This course combines the fundamentals of representational and expressive drawing with the collage process. Each week there will be lessons in drawing fundamentals: from gesture and contour drawing to explorations in mark-making or extended studies of the figure.  We will incorporate a wide range of drawing media from graphite to charcoal, ink and coloured media. A selection of our drawings will then be transformed through the collage process: they will be cut up, layered and rearranged in combination with other papers, materials and found imagery. Sometimes, the collage process will be the starting point for the drawing. To enhance and enrich our experience, we will refer to artists, past and present, who work in drawing and collage combinations.
