Based in colour theory and the primary colour palette, this hands-on course focuses on developing proficient and accurate colour mixing. Through structured exercises and practice, students will develop their ability to make intuitive choices regarding saturation, temperature and value and implement using practical applications.


Winter Tuition (8 weeks): $335

Spring Tuition (10 weeks): $405 + $35 materials fee = $440

 

Notes: This is an introductory level course that is suitable for painters who want to build their colour-language skills. Winter term: Note no class held Thurs., March 14. Make-up session to be held on April 5.

Materials to Bring

Winter term (Angela Leach):

This course is intended for Acrylic painters.

  • NB: Names of colours vary with different brands of paint. This list represents the most common names for colours essential to your paint kit. Pure cadmiums and cobalts are very expensive. If they are beyond your budget - buy the hues, they are cheap and mix well. When shopping talk to staff about your budget and ask what compares with the best artist grade paints. Avoid student grade paints including Liquitex and Pebeo.


HEAVY BODY ACRYLICS (tubes):

  • Cadmium Red Medium
  • Quinacridone Red (or Magenta)
  • Cobalt Blue
  • Phthalo Blue (Green Shade)
  • Cadmium Yellow Medium
  • Lemon Yellow (or Hansa Yellow Light)
  • Phthalo Green (Yellow Shade)
  • Carbon Black or Ivory Black
  • Titanium White (large tube)


PAINT KIT SUPPLIES:

  • Pad of Canvas Paper (16” x 20” or larger)
  • Brushes: Inexpensive, long handled, hog bristle - 1/4”, 1/2”, 1” (flat)
  • Pad of palette sheets
  • Palette knife
  • Pencil and ruler
  • Scissors and glue stick
  • Masking Tape
