In Figure Drawing, an understanding of anatomy can help to create more subtlety of description and a better sense of articulation: the parts tying together into a cohesive and dynamic whole.

This ONLINE 4 Day Intensive Workshop is structured for students with previous life-drawing experience who want to gain a deeper understanding of body structure for figure drawing. The course incorporates elements of anatomy, kinesiology, and drawing practice in order to enhance understanding of the body’s characteristic forms. Slide lectures and other visual aids will be used along with plentiful drawing time with models to provide a dynamic overview of the most important elements of our bones and muscles.

The four-day Intensive format allows for a`big picture' understanding of our most significant shapes and structures, and should help provide students with the tools to continue with deeper self-directed or instructed learning in the future.

It is recommended that students have taken a course in Introduction to Life Drawing or have basic figure drawing skills.

Notes: Thomas Hendry, a Toronto-based artist, has been an instructor at the Toronto School of Art since 1996. Hendry believes that learning art should be a positive discovery process. He practices this teaching philosophy beyond the Toronto School of Art at Sheridan College, The Haliburton School of Fine Arts, the AGO Gallery School, OCAD Outreach Program and the Toronto District School Board. His drawings, shown in numerous exhibitions, use the means of traditional art to create contemporary images, images that address the beauty, mystery and complexity embodied in the human form.
