This course is an introduction to Mono Printing with Gelli Plates combining printing, drawing and collaging. 

Various processes will be introduced including positive and negative printing techniques, printing on various papers and grounds, using found objects and mark making as well as drawing and stamping.

The mono prints will be then used also as a ground for further investigation with drawing, collage, painting and more.

This course will be offered in 2 sessions - each 5 weeks long. Each session is designed as a stand alone course, however, students who take first session may further explore the medium further in the second 5 week session.

What you will learn

Part 1

  • Setting up your work station, explaining and exploring materials
  • Basic lifting, making stamps and stencils with cardboard for lifting
  • Various processes will be introduced including positive and negative printing techniques, printing on various papers and grounds, using found objects and mark making as well as drawing and stamping

Part 2

  • The mono prints will be then used also as a ground for further investigation with drawing, collaging, painting and more

Materials to Bring

 Items can be ordered online or curb side pick up at art supply stores. Please keep your receipts in case you need to return items.

  • 1 or more Gelli Printing Plates 
  • Speedball Block Printings Inks, tubes of various colours plus black and white
  • Speedball rubber brayer 
  • Inking plate, can be a glass, plexi or metal (last is Speedball, but glass or plexi will do)
  • Sheets of sturdy plastic to put under Gelli Printing Plate
  • Cardboard and Hot Glue Gun for stamp making
  • Brown craft paper
  • Paper Towels
  • Stack of copy paper, various colours
  • Materials for lifting (nets, rope, leaves, stamps, feathers, old lino cuts, wood stamps etc)
  • Stack of Printing Paper
  • Fine Liner Pens various colours plus black
  • Set of Paint Markers, basic colours plus black and white (Posca)
  • Rope and pegs for drying prints
