An acrylic “skin” is a dry film that can be made of acrylic paint or acrylic medium that is not attached to any surface. Fluid acrylics work well because the consistency allows for easy pouring and spreading. Skins can then be glued down flat with a medium or gel. They can be wrinkled, bunched, folded and cut into various shapes. Delicate materials such as pressed leaves and flowers can be encapsulated within a skin. The skins can be layered, intermixed or placed over existing paintings. The possibilities are endless allowing the student the freedom to compose and arrange elements.
