This course offers an introduction to this extremely versatile and forgiving paint. Students will learn how to mix acrylic pigments with basic acrylic mediums and gels. *Mediums and gels offer the artist a world of control in changing acrylic colours, extending paint, increasing drying time, building texture and altering surface finishes. We will examine ways to start a painting, blending techniques to create depth, as well as basic colour mixing. Extensive instructor demonstrations will help students to understand the ABC’s of manipulating acrylic paint.


Fall 2020 5 Weeks: Base Tuition: $264 + Materials: $25 =Total: $289

In Fall 2020, this course will be offered in 2 Parts - each 5 weeks long. These courses can be taken as stand alone courses or Part 2 can be taken as a continuation of Part 1 to further explore the medium.

  • Titanium White 4oz jar or tube
  • Hansa Yellow Opaque
  • Diarylide Yellow

  • Quinacridone Red
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Phthalo Blue (G. S.)

PALETTE OPTIONS:  

  • "Masterson Sta-Wet Palette" with Red Top - Keeps acrylics wet longer (Large Size)  OR              
  •  "Masterson Sta-Wet Palette" with Yellow Top - Keeps acrylics wet longer (Medium Size)

BRUSHES: 

  • Raphael Hogs Bristle Brushes:   Filberts #'s 2, 8 & 12 or larger (basically sm., med., & lg.)
  • Hake 1” (This is a Watercolour Brush.)
  • #1 Round – ( Watercolour synthetic brush is fine )
  • Metal palette knife:  Small with an angle in the arm

PAINTING SURFACES:

UNPRIMED 10oz Canvas from a Roll – 3 ft of 36” width canvas

For 1st class please have:  Sketch Pad: Aquabee Super Deluxe 808 Sketch Book  9" x 12"

   Available at Toose Art Supplies   (If purchasing another brand make sure paper is 90lb)               

OTHER:

  • Masking tape - 3m Brand is Best   
  • Old Towel
  • Cellulose Sponges        
  • RUBBER MAID “SERVIN’ SAVER’ – 4 CONTAINERS ½ cup  OR any other snap top or screw top
  •   lidded ½ cup containers.   Available at Canadian Tire, Loblaws…
  • Water Container
  • Staple Gun (Small Hand held + appropriate staples)
  • Small Water Spritzer
