The course will focus on using traditional relief printmaking processes and techniques as well as basic intaglio techniques in line etching and sugar lift. Relief processes will include b/w images on elephant linoleum. This course will provide students with an understanding of the broad visual language of printmaking and the purpose and application of multiples in making art.

Materials to Bring

  • Sketchbook or collection of source material to make prints from. This can be in the form of drawings, paintings and photographs. All works completed by the students themselves.*
  • Shop apron *
  • Neoprene gloves (green) rated for use with solvents * 
  • Optional – if you are sensitive to smells: A respirator with active charcoal filters (can be purchased from Rotblot)
  • A set of wood carving tools (optional). The studio has a huge assortment of previously purchased cheaper tool sets, however, most are dull and in poor quality
  • A putty knife for mixing ink*
  • Pencils, erasers, utility knives *
  • Newsprint *
  • Cartridge paper
  • Various Japanese printmaking papers and western papers for both relief and intaglio printmaking.

All other material are provided for within our materials budget.
