Say more through your figurative drawing. The human form has always been a compelling subject in art history, across eras and cultures. As well as being a fascinating form in its own right, the body has rich symbolic potential. In this 6 week course you will put your existing skills to work exploring figurative drawing as a means for communicating concepts, and to explore more personal content within imagery of the body. In contemporary art and culture, bodies are the site of multiple discourses and discussions. By varying compositional approaches and materials, and by incorporating other image sources as well as life models, students will look at using figurative imagery as a vehicle to convey ideas, rather than simply a description of a person. Instruction will consist of brief lectures, and some relevant artists will be presented. As well as working time with models, some class time will be given over to review and discussion of work.
